Basic Function and Scope:
Directs and/or participates in various specialized clerical and technical activities related to passenger traffic handling and transitting passengers, as assigned. Includes checking-in passenger and baggage at respective check-in counter, issuing excess baggage form and collecting cash or credit card receipts, checking passport for validity and visa. Liaises with Immigration Authorities at Airport to facilitate clearance of passengers, cabin and deck crew, for KAC and other carriers’ flights. Arranges all requirements for transitting passengers, preparing manually and/or generating by computer passenger manifests, closing flights and preparing Passenger Transferring Manifests (PTM). Keeps Duty Supervisor aware of any non-routine problems encountered at area of responsibility for appropriate attention and resolution and carriers out on-site training and development activities for newly assigned Officers and Assistant Officers. May be assigned to any unit of Passenger Services as dictated by work requirements, including Special Handling Services, Transit, Releasing and Baggage Services.
Tasks and Duties:
a. Provides direction of work activities to Officers and Assistant Officers in assigned area, including allocating priorities and duties as required. Provides training and development to newly assigned Officers and Assistant officers as required.
b. Attends to all problems and questions encountered by Officers and Assistant Officers in assigned area. Includes answering questions, resolving routine problems and keeping respective Supervisor aware of non-routine problems encountered which require prompt attention and appropriate solution.
c. Directs and/or carries out, as assigned by Supervisor during shift, any of the following duties related to passenger check-in and handling services:
1. Checks in KAC or other carriers’ passengers and baggage at Airport check-in counters. Includes checking passenger tickets for appropriate fares and correct flight details and passports for validity and visa availability, advising Supervisor of any irregularity thereto. Should know visa requirements for all countries. Hands passport and information form duly stamped with flight number to passenger for completion.
2. Secures baggage on the scale, takes weight readings and indicates weight on the ticket. Secures necessary labels (Carriers, First Class, Handle with Care, etc.) and baggage identification tags on baggage. Sticks tag number on the related ticket, detaches ticket coupons and hands to passenger. Operates conveyor belt to transport baggage to sorting area.
3. Carries out various clerical and reception activities related to transitting passengers and baggage, and connecting flights at airport on assigned shift. Includes receiving and directing connecting passengers to interline counter and transit lounge, checking-in transit passengers, verifying passenger entitlements for hotel accommodation, issuing refreshments and meal vouchers for eligible passengers, receiving unaccompanied children and arranging for guardian pick-ups or escorts to departing aircraft.
4. Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned.
a. Completion of Secondary (12 years) education.
b. 4 years’ experience in airport operation with an airline, including 1 year of formal training on specialized traffic handling and ticketing.
c. Very good knowledge of English.
d. Knowledge of relevant computer system and keyboard skills.
